What is Ham Radio?

Ham radio, also known as amateur radio, is a hobby that involves using designated radio frequencies to communicate with other amateur radio operators around the world. It is a form of two-way communication that can involve voice, data, and even images.

Amateur radio operators use various types of equipment and antennas to communicate, and they often use Morse code as well as voice transmissions to communicate. The hobby has a strong emphasis on self-training and technical knowledge, and many operators enjoy experimenting with building and modifying their own equipment.

Ham radio operators also play an important role in emergency communications, providing a means of communication when other methods may be unavailable. They are often called upon to assist with communications during natural disasters, search and rescue operations, and other emergency situations.

To become a licensed amateur radio operator, one must pass an examination that tests knowledge of radio theory, regulations, and operating procedures. Once licensed, operators are assigned a unique call sign that identifies them on the airwaves.
